Grimm & Co hosts first ever Emporium of Horror Stories

Rotherham literacy charity, Grimm & Co, was the setting for a special workshop on jobs in the film industry.

Grimm & Co is a registered charity with a core purpose is to change lives one story at a time. Based in Rothreham town centre it supports under-resourced children and young people aged 0 to 18 with their confidence and skills around creativity and writing.

Screen Yorkshire was drafted in to work with twenty young people aged 15 to 18 and supported the intense workshop that was all focused on the genre of horror.

Screen Yorkshire is the engine that drives the film and TV sector in the region. Established in 2002, it has been building Yorkshire’s global reputation as a centre for excellence in the screen industries for more than twenty years, helping to secure its position as one of the most sought-after destinations for content production in the UK.

In April 2023, in partnership with Liverpool Film Office, North East Screen and Screen Manchester, Screen Yorkshire launched Screen Alliance North, which was selected as a BFI Skills Cluster and awarded £2.3m of BFI National Lottery funding, to make the screen sector more accessible and representative and to build a thriving and skilled workforce across the North of England.

After the workshop the creative young minds came together to write and film three short films in just two days with the help of filmmakers, actors, make up and special effects artists, and even stunt / fight coordinators.

The youngsters could be the next Jeremy Dyson, a writer in residence at Grimm & Co who created and co-wrote the West End show Ghost Stories and its film adaptation.

The hard work of the filmmakers will be shown at a special film premiere at Arc Cinema in Rotherham in January.
