Running from from 25 June to 1 September, the government is temporarily reducing VAT from 20% to 5% on children’s meals, children’s tickets for cinemas, theatres, concerts and exhibitions, and admission to many attractions.
To help families get out and about in Rotherham, children aged 5-15 travelling on local bus services can travel free in August.
At Forge Island in Rotherham town centre, Arc Cinema has launched its "Summer of Cinema" with tickets from £5.95. Family combo tickets also have 15% off and the kid's combo food deal (a tray of popcorn, bag of Haribo or Milky Way Magic Stars and a drink) is also on offer at £3.85. Canny cinema fans should also check out the Kid's Club and Toddler Time screenings to save even more.
Also at Forge Island, Vetro Lounge has introduced the Teenage Kicks menu for teens and tweens all summer long, allowing you to get a great deal on a meal and a soft drink, with a varied choice of brunch, mains, soft drinks and bubble tea available. The chain has also partnered with Kellogg’s to bring the Little Loungers Breakfast Club to Rotherham, where kids can eat free.
At Gulliver's Valley, the family theme park resort in Rotherham, standard admission prices have been reduced from £29 to £25. But if you book early, you can save even more. A quick check on the calendar for August for example, has tickets for just £19! And afternoon tickets, which provide admission between 2pm and 5pm, can save you even more.
At the Tropical Butterfly House Wildlife Conservation Park, which is also in Rotherham, operators are offering 15% off admission tickets and on the children's menu at Lottie’s Coffee Lounge. The interactive attraction at Anston features exotic butterflies, free-flying birds, meerkats, reptiles, and farm animals.
At AirHop, the adventure and inflatable park in Rotherham, prices have been adjusted on all sessions, parties, and kids’ meals. Summer passes may also work out cheaper if you are going to visit multiple times over the holidays.
Wentworth Woodhouse, the grand stately home in Rotherham, has launched its Summer Adventure Experience which offers free admission to the House & Gardens for children, 5% off Tour Admission and 10% off children’s menus (inc. Afternoon Tea). For the gardens, look out for free trail sheets and free activities in the Craft Cabin. Kids can also get £2 off to spend on selected items in the Gift Shop.
At Parkgate Shopping, food outlets are also offering summer savings.
Nando's is offering the Nandino (kids) set menu, which includes a main with two sides and a drink or dessert, for £6.08 (normally £6.95).
Kids Eat Free everyday this summer at Frankie & Benny's. Kids can enjoy a free meal from the kids’ menu with every adult main purchased. Each visit unlocks vouchers: Visit 1: Kids Eat Free & free ice cream for each guest (up to 6 guests), Visit 2: Kids Eat Free & 25% off food, and Visit 3: Kids Eat Free & 50% off food.
At Morrisons Café, the supermarket has teamed up with Birdseye to give kids a delicious selection of a main, side & drink. Get one free kid's meal with any adult meal over £5. A partnership woth Kellogg's means that you can get one free bowl of cereal and fruit per person, per day.
At ASDA, kids aged 16 or under can eat for £1 in the cafe whilst the supermarket also provides free Ella's baby food pouches for children under 18 months old with any purchase.
Over the road at Burger King, order a qualifying Adult Meal via the Burger King App to claim a free King Jr. Meal until Monday 31 August. Other cafes and restaurants around the borough also have deals for the summer.
Similar to Travelodge, the Beefeater restaurant at The Brecks has an offer where two kids under 16 eat for free with every adult breakfast purchased.
Tesco joins the other supermarkets with offers in its cafes. At Wath and in Rotherham town centre, Tesco cafes are offering one free Kids Hot Meal Deal, Kids Breakfast or Kids Pick ‘n’ Mix deal with any full price adult purchase when they scan their Tesco Clubcard. The adult purchase could be something as small as an apple costing just 65p.
At Dunelm in Canklow, kids can eat for free when an adult spends £5 in the store's Pausa Café.
The Sizzling Pubs chain has extended its Kids Eat for £1 offer to every day through the summer. At The Homestead, The Three Magpies, The King Henry and The Gate Inn, kids eat for £1 when you buy an adult main meal, so you can feed the whole family for £17 or less.
The Hungry Horse and Flaming Grill chains are also offering a "Kids Eat for 88p" deal until 28 August. Larger kid's meals are also available at £1.31 and all include a main, a drink and a pudding. Locations in Rotherham include The Riverside, Ring O'Bells, Brentwood, Glasshouse
There also a number of free things to do across Rotherham. For example Clifton Park and its museum and upgraded Water Splash area, the Summer Reading Challenge in local libraries and Rotherham Council’s Healthy Holiday programme.
