Thousands of people across South Yorkshire can enjoy free entry at Rotherham’s Georgian stately home Wentworth Woodhouse from this month.
The Preservation Trust regenerating the historic mansion is relaunching its South Yorkshire Sundays scheme, which since 2023 has given free house and garden admission to people living in areas of South Yorkshire who typically least visit the historic property.
A different postcode in these areas is chosen for one Sunday each month from March to October. Residents over 16 simply have to arrive with proof of their address to gain free entry.
“We set out to make Wentworth Woodhouse accessible to people from all walks of life and to serve our local communities. Our free South Yorkshire Sunday tickets are a key part of those commitments,“ Said the Trust’s Head of Culture and Engagement, Victoria Ryves.
“The high cost of living and rising unemployment is affecting families in this region. A day exploring a grand house probably won’t rank highly on their budgets.
"But this campaign gives them the opportunity to come and roam our family-friendly gardens and explore a house which has played a big part in local history.”
South Yorkshire Sundays is now in its third year and has welcomed more than 25 different postcodes across Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield.
It re-launches on Sunday March 22 with free entry for the S62 postcode. The invite goes out to people living in DN12 on April 26 and on May 31 it’s the turn of S64 residents.
