Curiouser and curiouser - steampunk weekend at Wentworth Woodhouse

For the first time, Steampunk Weekend is coming to Wentworth Woodhouse on September 27 and 28. The stately home will be reimagined into a Victorian past with a modern twist – and even a touch of science fiction.

With a series of displays and stalls to explore throughout the State Rooms, this is guaranteed to be a unique festival for keen enthusiasts and curious visitors alike.

One of the finest and grandest Georgian houses in England, standing in 87 acres of gardens and grounds, it has extensive views over former parkland, including a deer park and lakes, which are vested in the Fitzwilliam Wentworth Amenity Trust.

The current House was built for the 1st Marquess of Rockingham from circa 1725, the work continuing over four decades, and then passed to the Fitzwilliam family. The House is now owned by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust whose sole purpose is regeneration of the site for the benefit of South Yorkshire.

The House has permanent exhibitions on display in various State Rooms, plus the added attraction for one weekend only, opening it's doors not only to the general public, but also welcoming the colourful Steampunks in all of their incredibly beautiful tailored finery too!

This family friendly event has some specially invited science fiction based exhibitions on Dr. Who and Steampunk gadgetry, live musical entertainment, over 50 stalls inside the House throughout the Staterooms and even Steampunk Morris dancing!

The sumptuous Wentworth Woodhouse Library with all its comfy and squishy leather chesterfields will host a series of readings from published Authors on Horror, Gothic, Science Fiction and Inspirational genres.

Come and be enchanted by this wonderfully inventive, creative and visually stunning community based on Victorian Science Fiction and a world reimagined with steam as the predominant source of power, all as part of your general admission fee to Wentworth Woodhouse House and Gardens.
