Things to do in Rotherham this Bank Holiday Weekend

From festivals to football, find out what's on in Rotherham this August Bank Holiday Weekend and until the kids go back to school.

It's that time of year when Lawns Farm transforms into a full on festival venue. The family run farm shop in Morthen is hosting Farm Fest on Sunday August 30, a day packed with tradition, laughter, and rural fun for every generation. Expect live music, great food, local drinks and family fun.

The weekend at Lawns Farm gets of to a roaring start on Friday 28 with Laughing Stock - a stellar lineup of the UK’s circuit-leading comedians including Scott Bennett, Darren Walsh and Nick Page. On Saturday 29 the farm is being transformed into the ultimate country music haven for Hoedown. Expect a day filled with incredible live music, line-dancing, and that famous "Southern Hospitality" right here in South Yorkshire.

At Hooton Lodge, another cracking outdoor venue in Rotherham, August Bank Holiday always goes off. This year is a throwback for 80's v 90's - a family friendly festival featuring the best soundtracks from synth-pop to rave anthems, plus live performances, rides and attractions and food & drink stalls. There's a free Friday night warm up event before the main evnts on Saturday and Sunday - tickets are available for the whole weekend with camping oprions available.

Things are going downhill fast at Rother Valley Country Park in Rotherham on Saturday August 29. The Kid's Bike Jam is a free event as part of the fantastic Rotherham UPLIFT Festival and is perfect for children of all ages and abilities who love riding bikes. There’ll be free coaching, skills tips, ramps and specialist equipment for riders to try throughout the day. In the afternoon, timed training runs will be running on the popular “Diggers Downhill” trail.

There's a local derby at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Saturday as Rotherham United take on Chesterfield in a lunchtime kickoff.

It's the last chance to watch Summer blockbusters at Arc Cinema with films like Toy Story 5, Minions & Monsters, The End of Oak Street and Spiderman Brand New Day all showing this weekend. The cinema on Forge Island in Rotherham town centre is also showing the classic Japanese animated fantasy film, Kiki's Delivery Service.

On Monday August 31, Wentworth Woodhouse is hosting a fundraising car boot sale in the grand surroundings of its East Front Lawn. Sell any unwanted treasures whilst enjoying a full day of community spirit, raising crucial funds for this magnificent House & Gardens.

- Wentworth Woodhouse, the grand stately home in Rotherham, has launched its Summer Adventure Experience which offers free admission to the House & Gardens for children, 5% off Tour Admission and 10% off children’s menus (inc. Afternoon Tea). For the gardens, look out for free trail sheets and free activities in the Craft Cabin. Kids can also get £2 off to spend on selected items in the Gift Shop.
- Children and young people across Rotherham can enjoy free swimming opportunities this summer as part of a new Rotherham Council initiative.
- At Gulliver's Valley, the family theme park resort in Rotherham, standard admission prices have been reduced from £29 to £25. But if you book early, you can save even more. A quick check on the calendar for August Bank Holiday Monday for example, has tickets for just £19.50! And afternoon tickets, which provide admission between 2pm and 5pm, can save you even more.
