RADAR Festival started in 2019 in Guildford as a two-day event, with Animals as Leaders and Monuments headlining. After the 2022 edition, headlined by Dirty Loops, Leprous and Haken, the festival expanded and in 2023 RADAR moved to Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse with Sleep Token, Periphery and Igorrr headlining.
Now the organisers of the event that combines music and gaming have confirmed a new home for 2027 - the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham.
Set in the former Templeborough steelworks, the Magna Science Adventure Centre is a family attraction with more than 100 hands-on exhibits. It also hosts regular school trips and has unique event space that can cater for anything from five to 5,000 people. Spaces include the Big Hall, the Red Hall and the Face of Steel.
A post on social media from RADAR said: "RADAR has grown so much over the last few years, and as an independent festival, we're always looking for partners who believe in what we're building and give us the freedom to keep making RADAR... well, RADAR.
"That's exactly what we’ve found in Magna. Independent promoters, working with an independent venue, building something unique together.
"A huge former steelworks, packed with industrial character, towering spaces, and more room than we've ever had to dream a little bigger. It's an absolutely stunning backdrop, and we already have far too many ideas for how we're going to transform it into the unmistakable home of RADAR. Expect all the things you already love, alongside plenty of new surprises."
The event is in the 2027 calendar for July 30 to August 1.
The first performer to be announced is Mick Gordon, an acclaimed composer and multi-instrumentalist, who is set to unleash the DOOM soundtrack on stage for the very first time.
Founded in 2019 by seasoned industry professionals Catherine Jackson-Smith and Joe James, RADAR was born out of a passion for pushing musical boundaries and creating unforgettable experiences.
The festival website explains the ethos of the event: "RADAR lives for contemporary and progressive music. We celebrate the artists shaping the future, not the echoes of the past. Join us to experience the pulse of music’s evolution.
"In 2023 we introduced our Music Market, which was a first of it’s kind: combining musicians’ interests, the gaming industry and music fans all in one place.
