Rotherham-based artist takes pride in his latest commission

Rob Coyle, a senior creative with Sheffield based B2B marketing agency Objective, has been commissioned to be part of the prestigious Pride of Yorkshire project.

The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity Pride of Yorkshire Sculpture Trail will feature 150 large lion and lioness sculptures - as well as150 smaller lion cub sculptures - positioned across Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley next summer.

Rotherham-based Rob has been commissioned to create designs for the two lions, that will celebrate Rotherham United Football Club.

It’s a major accolade for Rob, who only took up art as a form of therapy after going through treatment for testicular cancer two years ago.

He started to create comic versions of favourite football club mascots, and his work captured the attention of The Pride of Yorkshire organisers.

“I couldn’t believe it when the organisers reached out to ask if I would be interested in getting involved with the Pride of Yorkshire project” said 37-year-old Rob.

“They were looking for a local creative to work on the Rotherham United lion and lioness, and given the popularity of my football mascot collection, it seemed like the perfect fit.

“The Children’s Hospital Charity is amazing, and it’s an enormous honour to be selected to join other great local artists working on the project.

“I’m getting used to taking a 2-D image and translating it to a 3-D form - scaling up my designs is a new but exciting process.”

Carl Richardson, Objective Creative and Digital Director said: “Rob is an outstanding B2B creative designer, a fantastic artist and a committed supporter of local charities and good causes.

“We are really proud that Rob is taking part in the Pride of Yorkshire project and the Objective team look forward to seeing his art work take pride of place on the streets of South Yorkshire.”
